The 2002 International Rexx Symposium will return to the Research Triangle Park on 29 April - 1 May, 2002 . The Symposium is the only technical conference dedicated to the Rexx family of programming languages, drawing speakers and attendees from around the world. It is the best place to learn valuable Rexx programming techniques, keep up with the latest developments in the Rexx community, and confer with your colleagues, many of whom are luminaries in the field. The Program will feature a wide variety of presentations ranging from tutorial introduction to real-world practical applications, to research papers describing techniques and features you will be using in the future.
The 2002 Rexx Symposium highlights the practical capabilities of the Rexx Language. The Program is being assembled and will include presentations such as the following:
Negotiations with the Sheraton Imperial resulted in a significant decrease in the Symposium room rate. A standard room is nearly one-third less than the cost of the same room last year! Be sure to request the "Rexx Symposium" special rate when you make your reservation.
The Rexx Shootout, where proponents of Rexx on various platforms take the same problem and demonstrate the benefits of their favorite solution, will return. So far, we have codeslingers for Windows, Java, TSO, and Linux. If you would like to participate, contact the RexxLA President president@rexxla.org for information.
Mike Cowlishaw, IBM Fellow and author of Rexx and NetRexx, will be discuss how and why Rexx's Decimal Arithmetic has been implemented in Java, C, and possibly on an upcoming microprocessor chip.
Dr. Rony Flatscher of the Vienna University of Business Administration and Economics will describe his work with DHTML with ObjectRexx. He will also conduct a thorough tutorial of Object Rexx for anyone wanting to learn how to use this powerful Object-Oriented Programming Language.
A representative from the IBM Rexx Development in Boeblingen, Germany will be on hand to discuss new developments in the IBM Rexx family, including the use of Rexx on Windows host platforms and networks.
Details on each day's events will be made available as soon as possible.
